Around ten years ago today, we began fundraising for our very first original work as Stolen Chair, Portrait of Dora as a Young Man, performed outdoors with a total budget of $250. Ah, those simpler times!

Ten years later, our operating budget has grown by almost 25,000%. In that time, Stolen Chair has become a distinctive voice in independent theatre and one of only a handful of companies who've tread NYC's floorboards for so many years, earning accolades for playfully provocative original productions like Kinderspiel, Stage Kiss, Kill Me Like You Mean It, and Theatre is Dead & So Are You.

As you probably know, however, box office receipts and government support pay for less than 50% of our expenses. To continue to survive into our second decade, we depend on the support of generous donors like YOU.
